Barack Obama announced the partial lifting of sanctions against Cuba today.
Clearly this is good news for the people affected, but partial? Come on Barack - the Cuban people have suffered for 50 years! Has the embargo had any positive results, or only a lot of misery for many poor people?
While on the topic of results...I keep hearing about how we are going to beef up the war in Afganistan. But what are the goals? This is how we get into endless quagmires! We are simply told that we need to ramp up the war, with no discussion of what we are trying to achive.
Listen! We are killing many innocents with no goal offered. Let me say that again - We are killing many innocents with NO GOAL OFFERED. What the hell? Are we insane? If an individual was found to have killed even one person, and said "...not sure why I did it..." we would have no problem classifying that person as insane!
Barack promised hope. I am willing to bet that the families of those killed by our drones don't feel more hopeful, and neither do I.
Come on Barack...

pre-flop raise in limit holdem
This is my first blog here, and I want to start out with a pet peeve. I play limit holdem mostly as a way to avoid bad beats when my luck isn't running in no limit. That being said, I have, over time been winner in the game.
My style of play is to play 100% and get out cheap if I don't hit. This brings up the thing that I don't understand, and want to, the pre-flop raise.
Lets say we are playing a 10/20 game, and i lead out for 10. I am not going to fold to a pre-flop raise of 10! There are 2 possibilities:
1. the raiser has a good hand - why are they advertising it now if they can't chase anyone off?
2. the raiser is trying to bluff ... really? ...for 10?
Either way, I watch people lose a lot of chips that way, as any 2 cards can win.
The thing that bothers me, of course, is that i am trying to get in and out cheap, and i can't do that if someone is pre flop raising every hand.
I usually just jump tables after the 2nd or third in a row - taking that tables money with me ...
If I am wring here, please educate me.
God, I love poker ...
